Case Study Method
Unlike traditional lecture-based teaching where student participation in the classroom is minimal, TTA uses the case study method that is an active learning method, which requires participation and involvement of the student in the classroom. A case is usually a “description of an actual situation, commonly involving a decision, a challenge, an opportunity, a problem or an issue faced by a person or persons in an organization.” In learning with case studies, the student deals with the situation described in the case, in the role of the manager or decision maker facing the situation.
While the classroom training (theoretical knowledge) helps the student acquire conceptual skills and analytical skills, practical learning/live assignments empower students with the aptitude to work effectively. Students at TTA are required to take up live projects to gain real work experience.
Role Playing as simulation
Role playing is when a group of people act out roles for a particular scenario. For instance, we train aspiring entrepreneurs by having two people act out a sale scenario. One acts as the sales person. The other acts as the customer. This allows trainees to practice their sales techniques. A trainer and/or other trainees may watch the role play and critique it afterward.
Role playing is simply a less technologically elaborate form of simulations. What astronauts do in their practice for missions; what pilots do in learning to navigate in flight simulators; what thousands of soldiers do in the course of military exercises – it’s all role playing. Teaching aspiring entrepreneurs to deal with customers, teaching doctors to interview patients, teaching teachers to deal with difficult situations, all these require some measure of actual practice and feedback.
Group Work / Project Work
AT TTA, a project work is a planned and definitely formulated piece of study involving a task or problem taken up by the students, either individually or in a group, to supplement and apply theoretical knowledge into real life work related problems.
The execution of the task must be properly planned. The project team keeps a complete record of work including the choice of project, planning, discussions held, distribution of work assigned to different team members, references and books consulted, observations, difficulties faced, guidance sought, etc. It follows the approach of Learning by Doing and Learning by Living.
As a finishing school, TTA also runs workshops for Motivation, team-building and improving performance. TTA’s Workshops combine training, development, team-building, communications, and planning. Participation and involvement of faculties with students increases the sense of ownership and empowerment and facilitates the overall development of the student.
